Key statistics on intellectual property rights, 2024

I. Patents

In 2024, the number of invention patents authorized in China was 1.045 million, the number of utility model patents authorized was 2.01 million, and the number of design patents authorized was 643,000.

By the end of 2024, the number of valid invention patents in China was 5.689 million. Among them, the number of valid domestic invention patents (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) was 4.682 million. The number of valid utility model patents was 11.657 million. The number of valid design patents was 3.074 million.

In 2024, the State Intellectual Property Office received 74,700 PCT international patent applications. Among them, domestic applicants submitted 69,300 applications.

In 2024, Chinese applicants submitted a total of 2,223 international design applications [1], and a total of 2,470 published international design applications designated China.

II. Trademarks

In 2024, the number of trademark applications in China was 6.971 million; the number of trademark registrations was 4.781 million. By the end of 2024, the number of valid registered trademarks was 49.777 million.

In 2024, the State Intellectual Property Office received 7,039 Madrid international trademark registration applications from Chinese applicants.

III. Geographical Indications, Integrated Circuit Layout Designs

In 2024, the State Intellectual Property Office recognized 36 geographical indication products, approved 125 geographical indications as collective trademarks or certification trademarks, and approved 8,680 entities to use the geographical indication special mark. By the end of 2024, a total of 2,544 geographical indication products had been recognized, a total of 7,402 geographical indications had been approved as collective trademarks or certification trademarks, and 32,645 entities had been approved to use the geographical indication special mark.

In 2024, the number of integrated circuit layout design registration applications in China was 11,506; the number of certificates issued was 10,608.
